The Webb Campaign Has Issues… Thursday, October 5, 2006

On its website.

For awhile now, the Webb campaign has circulated “side-by-side” comparisons between Jim’s positions on various policy issues and Sen. Allen’s. Focusing particularly on the domestic policy front, the Webb grassroots team seems to have effectively worked under the radar of the MSM and pro-Allen bloggers. With just over 30 days left in the race, and with voters now primed to actually pay attention to where the candidates stand on the issues that matter to them – health care, economy, education, etc - the campaign has posted the material to its website.

For the chorus of writers and journalists who carped about Webb running a one-note campaign (Iraq), it’s time to sing a different tune.

Thanks for this update. I just read through Webb’s site. He’s exercising good foresight by pushing a pseudo-socialist agenda (please…I don’t get hung-up on definitions). Socialist-like ideas are now more tempting than they’ve ever been. Most people are under way too much financial stress these days. I hope Webb sticks with his guns.

I thought Webb’s reference to Harry Byrd (”Pay as You Go”) was terribly corny, however. Like this is going to rouse all the old goats from their cornfields to start waving Webb for Senate signs.

Of course, the last time any Virginia politician seriously mentioned Harry Sr. and his policies it caused Doug Wilder to torpedo Owen Pickett’s run for the Senate in 1982. ;-)

How exactly is this socialist? And if you’re not hung up on definitions, why even use the term?

Jim Webb has issues too.

It seems that the Democrats are being a little single minded. George Allen has apologized for his macaca mistake, why hasn’t Jim Webb apologized for his racial issues he had. Chasing black people around in a pick-up truck seems worthy of an apo…

People Pundit, you must be the last blogger on earth to know the Webb “chasing black people around in a pick-up truck” story has been thoroughly discredited. I ought to have a macro for this, I’ve had to repeat it so much on Republican sites. Webb’s former roommate from that time said there was no truth to the story. Webb says there’s no truth to the story. And there is no record on either the transcript or the tape of the interview in which Mr. Webb supposedly told this story. No former acquaintances have stepped forward to verify the story, and in fact none of Mr. Webb’s former acquaintances, whether for or against him in this election, have ever said anything indicating they believe he did or would have done such a thing. Even acquaintances who DON’T like him are not accusing him of such things. This is as opposed to Allen, who can’t open his mouth without committing gaffe-icide, and whose past is littered with people remembering him as a race-baiting bully.
